ARY News’ senior official Ammad Yousaf arrested in Karachi

Karachi: ARY’s Senior Executive Vice President Ammad Yousaf was arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday.

His arrest came a day after the private broadcaster was served with a show-cause notice over PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s controversial remarks about Pakistan’s armed forces were aired.

ARY News initially defended Shehbaz Gill but distanced itself from his statement after Imran Khan’s chief of staff was arrested.

The TV channel said its transmission has been suspended across the country after the show-cause notice was issued by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

While the exact reason behind Ammad Yousaf’s arrest was not immediately known, an Islamabad-based senior journalist, Ahmed Mansoor, claimed that Shehbaz Gill’s mobile phone record led to his arrest.

Mansoor’s claim could not be confirmed independently.
