Bilal Kaka murder in Hyderabad sparks Sindhi, Pakhtun ethnic tensions
Hyderabad: Killing of a man at the hands of a hotel owner in Hyderabad triggered ethnic tensions between Sindhis and Pakhtuns in major cities of Sindh on Wednesday.
According to reports, tensions started after hotel owner Haji Pathan killed a man who was identified as Bilal Kaka. Police have arrested the suspected killer.
Kaka was reportedly killed over a dispute over payment of food he ate at Pathan’s hotel.
Eyewitness said Bilal Kaka had threatened the suspected murderer after an argument, a claim that could not be verified independently.
Shortly after the news of the murder surfaced, mobs attacked multiple hotels in Hyderabad, Larkana and other cities of the province.
Videos circulating on social media showed group of men asking Pakhtun hotel owners to close their business and leave Sindh.
Senior politician Afarasiab Khattak and rights activist Nida Kirmani demanded the Sindh government to stop the violence against Pakhtuns and protect their lives and properties in the province.
