Fazl reacts to verdict against Musharraf

Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F Ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman has defended Special Court’s verdict against former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

Musharraf was recently handed down death sentence with a majority decision of a three judge bench on the charges of high treason.

Reacting to the verdict, he said it was neither given by a political party nor any Panchayat.

Lamenting the criticism on court’s decision, he said it was unfortunate that the judgments are considered correct when they are against prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Yousaf Raza Gilani and Mian Nawaz Sharif.

“Now that the decision is against a former general, the issue is being turned into a matter of honor,” he said.
