Maulana Tariq Jameel responds to criticism over clothing brand
Karachi: Tableeghi Jamaat scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel has responded to criticism against him for launching a new clothing brand.
In a statement, the cleric said he does not intend to make money for himself by starting the business, instead he will spend the profits on his MTJ Foundation to build schools and hospitals.
The renowned scholar said for Ulema to get involved in business is considered a flaw in Pakistan and India. “I don’t know where does this thought come from? Molvi’s image has been built as that of a bagger,” he lamented.
Commenting on why he thought of starting the business, he said when coronavirus affected the entire world he decided not to seek donations or financial support from anyone.
“But problem was that how would I run my seminary. Then the idea of business came into my mind,” he said adding that efforts were made with the help of some friends to launch the clothing brand.
