Security put on high alert as Imran Khan returns to Islamabad
Islamabad: Former prime minister Imran Khan returned to Islamabad after spending several weeks in Peshawar.
Security at his residence was put on high alert upon his arrival.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said the government would provide security to Imran Khan.
Earlier, the Islamabad Police on Saturday night said the security around Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence has been beefed up ahead of his arrival in Islamabad.
The police issued a statement a day after Khan’s aide Shahbaz Gill said the government withdrew the security of the former prime minister.
“In view of the expected arrival of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Bani Gala, security around Bani Gala has been strengthened and placed on high alert. However, until now Islamabad Police has not received any confirmed news of return from Imran Khan’s team,” the statement said.
The police said, “Security Division has deployed dedicated security in Bani Gala. List of people in Bani Gala not provided yet to Police. Section 144 is imposed in Islamabad and any congregation is not allowed as per orders of District Magistrate.”
It said, “Islamabad Police will provide complete security to IK as per the law and reciprocal cooperation is expected from Security teams of Imran Khan as well.”
Imran Khan’s security was beefed up last month when he said his life was in danger.
The PTI also appointed former SSG Commando, Lt.Col Asim, as Imran Khan’s chief security officer last month.
Meanwhile, Khan’s close aide and legal adviser Babar Awan said Imran Khan’s life is in serious danger and the next 24 hours are crucial in this regard.
Anchor Imran Riaz Khan, who is allied to the PTI, said Imran Khan has decided to return to Islamabad. He said that with Imran Khan’s return political temperature in Punjab is expected to rise.
Imran Riaz said the former prime minister is also ready to get arrested.
