Istanbul: A major earthquake of magnitude 7.9 struck central Turkey and northwest Syria on Monday, killing hundreds of people as buildings collapsed across the snowy region, triggering a search for survivors trapped in rubble.
The quake, which hit in the early darkness of a winter morning, was also felt in Cyprus and Lebanon.
The earthquake was predicted by a researcher from Netherland on February 3, 2023.
Using his Twitter account Dutch expert Frank Hoogerbeets wrote, “Sooner or later there will be a ~M 7.5 earthquake in this region (South-Central Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon).”
His tweet, which has more than 7 million views on Twitter, proved to be correct on February 6.
