Delete Facebook is trending on Twitter

Hundreds of people were using “Delete Facebook” hashtag on Twitter, with many of them having no idea as to how and why the trend started.

Despite being not aware of the reason behind Twitter trend against Facebook, users kept sending the tweets with #DeleteFacebook hashtag.

Why it started

It apparently started after the social media giant refused to delete an edited video of Nancy Pelosi, Democratic House speaker. The video was edited to create the impression that she was either drunk or unwell.

The video that went viral on the Facebook shows Pelosispeaking at an event, but it has been slowed down to give the impression she is slurring her words. “Several versions of the clip appeared to be circulating,” Guardian reported.

“What is wrong with Nancy Pelosi? Her speech pattern is bizarre,” wrote the former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani in the caption of the video on Facebook. He, however, has deleted the post.

Facebook refused to delete the video but said it will only downgrade its visibility in users’ newsfeeds and attach a link to a third-party factchecking site pointing out that the clip is misleading.

“PELOSI STAMMERS THROUGH NEWS CONFERENCE,” wrote President Trump in a tweet which accompanied the video.

Facebook’s refusal seems to have angered the social media users who chose Twitter to vent their anger by calling for boycott of both Facebook and Instagram.

The tweets were sent with #DeleteFacebook hashtag trend.
