Depression led Tariq Jamil’s son to commit suicide, police confirm after watching video
Multan: Maulana Tariq Jamil on Sunday said his son Asim Jamil died as he asked for prayers.
He did not elaborate on his son’s cause of death. Rumors started circulating about the cause of his death with some people calming he was shot dead by some unknown gunman.
Other said Asim Jamil died of a bullet wound after a gun went off inadvertently.
But local police said that Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son ended his own life.
A statement issued by the Regional Police Office (RPO) Multan said the DPO of the area confirmed that Asim Jamil committed suicide and he has also seen the CCTV footage of how he died.
The RPO Multan said that Tariq Jamil’s son had metal health issues and he had been taking medicine for several years.
Tariq Jamil’s eldest son Maulana Yousaf Jamil also issued a video statement to confirm that his younger brother was fighting depression.
He said the deceased asked his servant Iman to bring the pistol and his employee stopped him when Jamil pointed the gun to his own chest.
Asim Jamil got married to a woman of his own choice but the marriage ended in divorce.
His funeral prayers are due to offered on Monday evening in his hometown.
