Pandora Papers: ARY takes somersault after Maryam Nawaz threatens to sue over fake news

ARY News, which International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) said is not an ICIJ partner and doesn’t have access to its data, on Sunday repeatedly aired fake news that Maryam Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar was named in Pandora Papers.
The TV channel, after misleading its viewers for hours, backtracked after Maryam Nawaz threatened to take legal action against the broadcaster in Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The channel clarified that Junaid Safdar was not named in Pandora Papers only after Maryam’s threat. But the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader insisted ARY apologize immediately for fearing fake news. “I will take them to the court. Sue them”.
Reacting to ARY’s clarification, Maryam said, “This is not enough. ARY needs to tender an unambiguous apology for running a totally malicious & fabricated news dragging my son or be ready for a strict legal action here and in the UK.”
