Rana Shamim: Who is former Chief Judge of Supreme Appellate Court Gigit-Baltistan?

Karachi: Rana Muhammad Shamim, the former chief judge of Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Appellate  Court has stirred a political storm by levelling serious allegations against former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.


He said Nisar had asked judge of a hight court not to grant bails to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz before 2018 General Election.


He served as chief judge in Gilgit-Baltistan from 2015 to 2018. Few people know that he had also served as judge of the Sindh High Court from 2007 to 2009.


He was among dozens of judges who were appointed in different high courts and the Supreme Court under Pervez Musharraf’s emergency.


All these judges were removed from their positions by the Supreme Court in 2009 on Supreme Court Bar’s petition.


Justice retired Rana Shamim is currently serving as Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law where he was appointed for three years in 2019.


Born in Sahiwal, Punjab, Rana Shamim spent most of his professional and academic life in Karachi.
