Syria earthquake hits Bibi Zainab’s shrine

Damascus: At least 1,444 people died Monday across Syria after the devastating earthquake that had its epicentre in southwestern Turkey, the government and rescuers said.
The 7.8-magnitude quake — which was followed by dozens of aftershocks in the region, shook the shrine of Bibi Zainab but no damage was caused to the building.
A video of the shrine shows chandeliers in swinging side to side during the quake.
Rescuers in Turkey and Syria braved freezing darkness, aftershocks and collapsing buildings Tuesday, as they dug for survivors buried by a string of earthquakes that killed at least 4,800 people.
