US accused of recruiting Iraq’s Muslim fighters for Ukraine war
Baghdad: Ashab al-Kahf, an Iran-backed Iraqi Shiite militia, has accused the United States NATO of using Ein al-Assad and Al-Tanf bases to recruit Iraqi Sunni youths to fight against Russia in Ukraine.
In an Arabic language statement, the militia warned to stop these activities with a deadly force.
The US has yet to comment on the claims made by the organization. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has invited foreign fighters to join his forces to fight against Russia. While hundreds of Europeans have joined the Ukrainian forces on Zelenskyy’s call, there are no reports about any fighters from Muslim countries entering Ukraine.
Thousands of people have been killed and more than two million people have fled the conflict since Russian President Putin ordered his troops into Ukraine.
