Brigadier Raja Rizwan hanged?
The Pakistan Army officer convicted of spying for foreign powers has been hanged, multiple sources claimed.
The execution came months after the army announced Brigadier Raja Rizwan along with a Lt.Gen and a scientist had been convicted by a military court.
The brigadier was hanged after his mercy appeal was rejected.
The Inter-Services Public Relations, military’s media wing, has not issued a statement about the execution of the convict but social media is abuzz with the unconfirmed reports of Brigadier Raja Rizwan’s hanging.
The army officer was given capital punishment on the charges of espionage and leaking information to foreign forces.
He was among the three people convicted by a military court.
At the time of his conviction, the military said the army chief endorsed 14 year imprisonment to Lt. Gen (retd) Javed Iqbal and death sentences to Brigadier Raja Rizwan and a civilian Doctor Wasim Akram, employed by an army organization.
According to sources , Raja Rizwan, a former officer of the country’s top secret agency, held important diplomatic positions abroad as a defence attache.
