Who is Lt.General Sarfaraz Ali?

One of Pakistan’s top military commanders Lt. General Sarfaraz Ali lost his life in a helicopter crash on Monday.
The commander of the 12 Corps, also called Southern Command, was flying from Quetta to Karachi along with five others when the incident happened.
Before his posting in Balochistan, Lt Gen Sarfaraz Ali served as Inspector General Frontier Corps South Balochistan, DG Military Intelligence, Commander 111 Brigade Rawalpindi and Defense Attaché at the Pakistan Embassy in the United States USA.
He was among the three generals who were interviewed by former prime minister Imran Khan last year for the slot of Director General ISI to replace Lt.General Faiz Hameed.
The general had one daughter and two sons.
He served in the Pakistan army for 33 years after being commissioned in 6 Azad Kashmir Regiment in 1989.
Matiullah Jan, who is known as a fearless journalist and a staunch critics of the Pakistani army, revealed that Lt. General Sarafarz Ali was his platoon mate at the Kakol Academy and he secretly wished for him to become the army chief.

Paying tribute to the general, the journalist wrote, “He was a sergeant who inspired and cared about his Abdali juniors. Meticulous about academic notes and uniform.Last met 2013 reunion at Rawalpindi and exchanged glances and smile at PTV in 2014.”
