Unprecedented: Former ISI chief Zaheerul Islam’s loyalty with PTI discussed on three prime time TV shows

Islamabad: Former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Zaheerul Islam was the topic of three prime time talks shows in Pakistan, a day after he openly came out in support of Imran Khan’s PTI.

The general’s appearance at a PTI gathering led to an unprecedented coverage and criticism of any ISI honcho on live TV.

Geo’s Shahzeb Khanzada discussed the general’s relations with former prime minister Imran Khan.

He also talked about how two other ISI bosses, Lt. Gen (retd) Ahmed Shuja Pasha and Lt. General Faiz Hameed, backed the former cricket hero.

Syed Talat Hussain invited Hamid Mir and Matiullah Jan to discuss Zaheerul Islam’s latest political activity in his home town in Rawalpindi.

During the show Matiuallah revealed that Nawaz Sharif was reluctant to name Zaheerul Islam when he had invited a group of journalists amid PTI’s 2014 protest. Sharif, after being removed from power, said that Islam had asked him to step down.

Anchor Nadeem Malik also highlighted the general’s role in politics in the past in his show on Samaa TV.
