Bjorn Fortuin, South African cricketer, converts to Islam

Cape Town: South African cricketer Bjorn Fortuin has embraced Islam along with his wife Mieshka Aysen. Bjorn, who has changed his name to Emad, made his international debut for the South Africa cricket team in September 2019.

The left-arm bowler and a right-handed batsman confirmed that he and his wife have become Muslims after converting to Islam in the holy month of Ramadan.

The cricketer thanked his friends on social media who congratulated him on becoming a Muslim. He also re-shared a couple of pictures of himself and his wife in which the couple is seen wearing traditional Islamic clothes that are worn by majority of Muslims in several African countries.

A look at Bjorn’s Instagram feed shows that he and his wife loved to indulge in public displays of affection and wore bold Western outfits before accepting Islam.

The cricketer did not elaborate on what made him and his wife to convert to Islam. “Last night Bjorn took his Shahada.Alhamdulillah and during the month of Ramadhan. He chose the name Emad,” read the caption of one of the pictures shared by Bjorn on his Insta story.
