KARACHI: Sarfraz Ahmad on Monday said Pakistan World Cup squad would comprise top in-form players, casting doubts about the selection of Mohammad Amir.

Asked to comment on Mohammad Amir’s dismal performance, Ahmed said the left-arm pacer was a good bowler but it was unfortunate that he could not succeed in getting wickets in last few series.

He said the decision regarding Amir’s selection for the mega event would be taken soon.

“It is the dream of every captain to win a World Cup for their country,” he said in an interview with state-run Associated Press of Pakistan news agency, expressing hope that he would lead the team to the final of the mega event.

Asked which teams he thinks would emerge as top contender for the title , the captain named Australia, New ZeaLand, Australia India and Pakistan.

Answering a question the players who play the World Cup for Pakistan, Ahmed said the squad would be finalized after consultation with all the stakeholders.

“Pakistan cricket team has to show its best performance to win the cup,” said he.

Responding to a question about the options in case of injuries, the Pakistan skipper said the team would have alternate players during the tournament.

Sarfraz expressed the hoped that Hasan Ali would maintain his form and Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman would come up to the expectations as openers in the World Cup.

The skipper hoped that Mohammad Hasnain, the 17-year old paceman, would also perform well in the future if his skills are honned.

He said the young fast bowler should focus more on on line and length rather than speed.

“We have established a pool consisting of 23 players and selection for the World Cup would be made from this pool,” Sarfraz Ahmed said

Talking about Shoaib Malik, he said the former captain was the most senior player and the need of the team in the World Cup.
