PSL4: Quetta Gladiators defeat Peshawar Zalmi to lift trophy
Karachi: Quetta Gladiators defeated Peshawar Zalmi by eight wickets in the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to lift the trophy for the first time on Sunday at the National Stadium.
Gladiators restricted Zalmi to 138 runs after winning the toss and opting to field first.
Fast bowler Muhammad Hasnain’s 3- 30 and opener Ahmed Shahzad’s 59 played key role in Gladiators victory .
Hasnain and Muhamamd Nawaz put Zalmi in defensive by taking early wickets of Imam-ul- Haq (3) and Kamran Akmak (21).
For Peshawar Zalmi, Umar Amin contributed 38, Sohaib Maqsood 20, Darren Sammy 18 to set a total that Gladiators chased in 17.5 overs.
Man of the Match went to 18-year old Muhamamd Hasnain who is also part of Pakistani team in the upcoming series against Australia.
Speaking to Ramiz Raja, the young pacer said he has learned a lot by sharing the dressing room with senior Gladiator players.
President of Pakistan Arif Alvi gave the trophy to Sarfraz Ahmed.
The match started with a star-studded closing ceremony with performances from Aima Baig, Junoon, Abrarul Haq and Fawad Khan.
Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah were also present in the National Stadium to witness the match.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the crowd observed one minute silence to honor the victims of a terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Bangladesh cricket team had narrowly escaped the attack that took place on Friday, killing 50 people and injuring many others.
