LONDON: Naz Shah, a Pakistani-origin member of British Parliament, has approached police with a complaint of sexual misbehavior which she faced on a London bus.
The Labour Party lawmaker said in a statement that she was completly shockd and was feeling sick about it.
On April 2, Naz Shah took to Twitter and wrote “Still feeling sick after reporting indecent sexual behavior to @metpoliceuk on @TfL bus earlier! Apparently over 90% goes unreported. Always report it to ensure it is stamped out. Text What, Where and When to 61016 or call 101”.
Responding to Naz Shah Transport for London (TfL) informed the Pakistani origin MP that if an incident happens on a London bus, people should contact the Met Police and if it happens on a train, it should be reported to the British Transport Police (BTP).
“I’ve never experienced anything like that. Women should be allowed to go about their business without this happening,” Naz Shah said.
Encouraging victims of sexual misbehavior to approach police, she said if such incidents go unreported it would only add to the statistics.
Naz Shah also posted a Youtube video on Twitter highlighting importance of reporting the unwanted sexual behavior.
Although Naz Shah did not mention in her Twitter post what kind of sexual behavior she had to face, NDTV reported that MP Naz Shah in her statement said the “man had his bits hanging out and was masturbating as she disembarked the bus.
The London Metropolitan Police Department is said to have launched an investigation.
People have been voicing support and expressing sympathies for Naz Shah on social media after the reports emerged of the incident.
