Renowned British Islamic scholar Muhammad ibn Adam Al-Kawthari has said Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza’s understanding of Islam is flawed on so many levels.
Taking aim at the Pakistani scholar, Al-Kawtharisaid Mirza claims to present non-sectarian influenced pure Islam, but in reality is calling his followers to follow his personal ‘ijtihad’.
In a social media post, the author several books said also called out Mirza for ridiculing revered Islamic personalities.
Here’s a complete statement issued by Muhammad ibn Adam Al-Kawthari
It is not my habit to mention anyone by name, especially those involved in non-English discourse. However, after recently watching many clips of ‘popular’ Pakistani YouTuber, Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, I felt it necessary to warn our Pakistani brothers and sisters from his fitna. His understanding of Islam is flawed on so many levels. He claims to present non-sectarian influenced pure Islam, but in reality is calling his followers to follow his personal ‘ijtihad’. Many people are rightly tired of inter-sect polemics & sectarian based Islam, hence this can easily be used to one’s advantage, as an ‘attractive’ da’wa tool – calling towards “sect-free Islam”, but in fact calling people towards one’s own version and explanation of Islam. As a result, his followers end up leaving one group and following his group or sect.
Moreover, his ridiculing of sahaba, awliya, fuqaha and ulama of this umma is beyond absurd. Disagreeing with someone is one thing, but the language and toned used by him – causally levelling false allegations at learned people at every given opportunity – does not behove any Muslim let alone someone whom claims to propagate the deen. The simple minded Muslims of Pakistan feel he has immense knowledge and that finally someone is standing up to false customary Islamic teachings, but they do not realise that he very cleverly twists many issues in order to convince his followers. I urge Pakistani Muslims, and indeed all Urdu speaking Muslims, to avoid his discourse – otherwise the end result will be confusion, doubts about Islam, hatred towards the majority of the people of deen and discontentment.
Listen to those pious (awliya’) ulama whose discourses result in a desire to change your life, connect with Allah, humility and soft-heartedness – and not of those whose waffling results in wanting to debate every issue, look down upon everyone, become controversial and refute everyone, and whose discourse creates doubts, pride and hard-heartedness. May Allah protect us all, Ameen.
