Umar Akmal faces the music after dancing video goes viral

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board has fined Umakr Akmal 20 percent of his match fee after the middle-order batsman was seen dancing in a video in UAE where the green-shirts lost the ODI series 5-0 to Australia.

“Umar Akmal has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and has also received an official reprimand for a late night-out ahead of Sunday’s fifth ODI against Australia in Dubai,” the PCB said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, Akmal pleaded guilty to the charge, apologised for his actions and accepted the sanction proposed by team manager Talat Ali.

PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan said: “I am glad that Umar has realised his mistake, and apologised for his actions, which were clearly unprofessional and in no way can be ignored or overlooked.

“The PCB expects a high level of professionalism and commitment from its players, and this action is a reiteration and timely reminder that any indiscipline shall not be tolerated or accepted.”

The video of Umar Akmal dancing in UAE club had gone viral on the Internet.

It was not the first time Akmal has faced disciplinary action. He was arrested in 2009 for attacking a traffic police warden and dropped from team in 2015 for dancing.
