Lt. Gen Faiz Hameed will take early retirement to return as Imran Khan’s aide

Islamabad: Former Director General ISI Lt General Faiz Hameed has decided to take early retirement, claimed senior journalist and anchor Kamran Shahid on Saturday.

He attributed his claim to unnamed sources, without revealing when will Faiz Hameed, who is currently serving as Bahawalpur Corps Commander, retire from the service.

The General from Chakwal is due to retire in April next year if he doesn’t take an early retirement.

The report comes days after Lt. General Asim Munir was chosen the next Chief of the Army Staff from the list of officers that also included General Faiz Hameed..

Geo News on Friday reported that Lt. General Azhar Abbas has also decided to take early retirement.

Both Hameed and Abbas are junior to Asim Munir and it is unusual for junior officers to take early retirement in case they are ignored in the race for the top slot of the army chief and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Faiz Hameed is expected to return as Imran Khan’s aide if the PTI chairman becomes the prime minister for the second time.

Hameed’s brother Najaf Hameed is a prominent PTI leader in Chakwal.
