Govt delays petroleum products price hike

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to delay the hike in petroleum prices, said Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday.

She was addressing a press conference after the cabinet meeting that was presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

She said the prime minister directed that Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) recommendation for POL price hike be sent to Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).

Awan said the prime minister wants the ECC to pass on minimum burden to the consumers.

She said the decision to change petroleum prices would be taken after the ECC reviews the OGRA’s proposal.

OGRA has sent a summary to the Finance Ministry seeking a hike of Rs4.89 per litre in diesel prices, Rs7.46 in kerosene oil, Rs14.37 in petrol and Rs6.40 in light diesel price.
