Fact-check: Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor have not made donation for Pakistan’s flood victims

The website of one of Pakiatan’s widely circulated English newspaper Daily Times reported that Bollywood couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor donated Rs5 Crores (50 million) for the flood victims in Pakistan.

The report is incorrect as the couple who is currently busy promoting their upcoming movie “Brahmastra” have not made any pledge to help the flood victims in Pakiatan where hundreds of people including children have been killed and millions have been rendered homeless.

While Hollywood stars and models including Alec Baldwin, Bella Hadid and several others have highlighted the destruction caused by the climate induced floods through their social media accounts, Alia Bhatt has chosen not to express sympathy to the victims on her Instagram account let alone make a hefty donation.

Her husband Ranbir Kapoor does not have presence on social media.

Meanwhile, BBC’s UK-based Entertainment reporter Haroon Rashid has lamented the absence of any reaction from the India actors to the calamity that hit Pakiatan.

Taking to Twitter, Haroon wrote, “I genuinely thought humanity knows no borders but it’s telling that hardly any Bollywood stars have posted about the devastating floods in Pakistan – raise awareness, share links, just show sympathy. They know how popular they are and how much that acknowledgement would mean.”
