Indian actor Farhan Akhtar hits out at BJP in cryptic statement over ‘blasphemy’

In a cryptic Twitter post, Indian actor Farhan Akhtar hit out at the extremist elements in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who are receiving backlash for insulting the Prophet of Islam.

Without naming anyone, Akhtar wrote, “A forced apology is never from the heart.”

The actor received strong reaction from BJP loyalists in the comments section, with some threatening him with boycott of his films.

Many saw Farhan’s statement as a response to Nupur Sharma’s apology.

Several Muslim countries on Sunday summoned Indian diplomats to lodge their protest against the blasphemous remarks passed by the BJP leader.

The BJP said it has suspended Nupur Sharma over her controversial remarks made on TV.
