What is a shadow ban on TikTok?
Addressing the issue on Quora, a a user Isla Fisher from United King wrote: “Shadow banning, also known as ghost banning, or stealth banning, is commonly defined as the practice of blocking a user or their content, fully or partially, in a way that it will not be obvious to the user. The same thing is done in case of TikTok.
They can also ban you from making a new account if the offense was serious enough for an IP ban, which is when the platform shuts you out based on your IP address. This is precisely what sets shadowbanning apart. Shadowbanning, also known as ghost banning, or stealth banning, is commonly defined as the practice of blocking a user or their content, fully or partially, in a way that it will not be obvious to the user. The same thing is done in case of TikTok. The content which is abusive or against their community guidelines is banned on TikTok. And this is termed as TikTok Shadow Ban.”
