Ayyan declared proclaimed offender, orders issued for confiscation of assets

RAWALPINDI: A Customs court on Saturday declared model Ayyan Ali a proclaimed absconder in a currency smuggling case.

She was arrested in 2015 by Airport authorities at Islamabad ‘s Benazir International Airport while carrying foreign currency more than legally allowed.

Although the model was released on bail months after her arrest, she has yet to prove her innocence in money smuggling case.

During Saturday’s hearing,  Judge Arshah Hussain Bhatta  also sought details of her properties and ordered to confiscate her assets while issuing permanent arrest warrants for her.

The judge asked the prosecutors whether raids were carried out on the residence of the model since arrest warrants had been issued for her.

He said the address given by the suspect was of a private housing society in Karachi.

An investigator told the court that he visited Karachi where he was told that Ayyan Ali has not come to her flat for a long time.

The judge ordered the authorititis to appoint a magistrate who would make sure that the suspect is not able to sell her flat.
