‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’: Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel is being adapted into Netflix series

More than 50 years after its publication Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is being adapted into to series by Netflix.

The celebrated Colombian writer had published the novel in 1967 which is being adapted for the screen for the first time.

The writer’s son Rodrigo Garcia told Variety in statement that his father was not willing to sell the rights to “One Hundred Years of Solitude” because he didn’t think that it could be made under time constrains of a feature film.

According to Garcia, his father thought producing a film in a language other than Spanish can’t do his masterpiece justice.

The author’s two son Rodrigo and Gonzolo Garcia Barcha will be serving as executive producers of the project planned to be filmed in Colombia.

“Hundred Years of Solitude” sold an estimated 50 million copies and been translated into over 40 languages.  Gabriel Garcia Marquez was regarded as one of the most famous Spanish writer.
