Rihanna: No let-up in online attacks against the singer in India

Rihanna received backlash after the singer drew global attention to the cause of protesting farmers in India earlier this month.

The Barbadian singer was attacked online by the supporters on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi including a Bollywood actress.

A BBC report suggested that several celebrities, including Indian captain Virat Kohli, Bollywood’s Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and badminton player Saina Nehwal – sent out tweets that were apparently co-ordinated by social media managers from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

While it all happened in the first week of February, a large number of Modi supporters were observed tweeting against Rihanna on Monday, 15 February.

A number of Twitter and internet users were also searching for some alleged ‘leaked video of Rihanna” to corroborate Indian actress Kangana Ranaut’s statement that the singer is a ‘porn star’.
