Karachi: MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain passed away at a hospital in Karachi on Thursday.

The TV anchor was admitted to a private hospital on Wednesday.

Aamir Liaquat died 30 minutes before he was shifted to Karachi’s Aga Khan hospital, said DIG Muqqddas Haider. He said there was no marks on his body but an autopsy will be conducted to rule out foul play.

Quoting hospital sources, senior journalist Usman Manzoor said Aamir Liaquat apparently committed suicide.

Geo News reported that the MNA had a pain in his chest and his servants kept his room door knocking to attend to him.

Citing a reporter based in Karachi, anchor and YouTuber Tariq Mateeen said Aamir Liaquat’s room was filled with smoke hours after he was shifted to hospital.

Aamir Liaquat’s shocking death came days after he said he has decided to leave Pakistan.

He had made the decision after his third wife Daniya Shah had released his controversial video.

Aamirn Liaquat rose to fame for his Geo News talk show Aalim Online before he became minister in Pervez Musharraf’s government.

He contested 2018 election on PTI ticket and had parted his ways with the party after a no-confidence motion was moved against former prime minister Imran Khan.

Commenting on his death, New York Time reporter and senior Pakistani journalist Salman Masood said, “Aamir Liaqut Hussain saw the dizzying heights of fame and notoriety. His life took a downward spiral in recent years as controversies and scandals followed him. A man of many talents undone by his unhinged ways. But in the end, a sad and shocking death.”
