Blasphemy case registered against Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, hardline cleric issues death fatwa

Jhelum: Renowned cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has been accused of blasphemy in a case registered in his home town.

The case was lodged on the basis of a YouTube video submitted by the complainant.

Hundreds of people took to social media to express their views on the case against Mirza, who is admired by a large number of youth.

Anchor and YouTuber Imran Riaz said the case against Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza was registered for his criticism of the Pakistani establishment.

Majority of Twitter users seemed to disagree with the authorities’ decision to allow the registration of the FIR.

Meanwhile, Peer Afzal Qadri, a cleric who was arrested by Imran Khan’s government for issuing fatwas against high profile state functionaries, said Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza deserve to die.

Speaking at a gathering, Qadri said that if the police did not act against Mirza he would court arrest in protest.
