COAS Gen Bajwa meets PM Imran amid political turmoil

Islamabad: Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa met Prime Minister Imran Khan on late Friday night amid the political crisis that unfolded in the wake of a no-confidence motion submitted against the premier in the National Assembly.

Opposition parties in the parliament have demanded the prime minister resign as he has lot majority in the lower house.

The situation worsened after several ruling party MNAs were found hiding in Islamabad’s Sindh House. The ruling party has accused the PPP and other opposition parties of spending millions of rupees to convince its lawmakers to vote against Imran Khan.

The prime minister’s refusal to resign and his decision to hold a rally in front of the parliament before the voting on the no-trust motion has created a deadlock.

According to multiple sources, General Bajwa and Imran Khan discussed the political situation but details of their talks are still unknown. A private TV channel reported that the ISI chief was also present during their meeting.

Imran Khan’s meeting with Bajwa has given his supporters the hope that he will survive the political storm.
