Dawood Group Pakistan pledges Rs 1 billion donation to fight coronavirus

Karachi: Engro Group Chairman Hussain Dawood has announced to donate Rs1 billion to back government’s relief efforts during coronavirus pandemic.

Senior Pakistani journalist Kamran Khan on Thursday praised Hussain Dawood for the gesture.

Taking to his social media pages, Khan wrote “First in Pakistan: Engro Group Chairman Hussain Dawood sat a glowing example a short while ago by pledging Rs One Billion to support efforts and fight Covid-19”.

Khan also urged other Pakistani millionaires to come forward and follow in the footsteps of Hussan Dawood.

“It’s time for our richest such Mian Muhammad Mansha etc to come forward,” he added.

Coronavirus has affected thousands of people in Pakistan, rendering millions of people jobless.

The government has been reluctant to impose a complete countrywide lockdown due to lack of resources which would be required to help those whose livelihoods have been upended by COVID-19.
