Former ISI chief Zaheerul Islam joins PTI?

Islamabad: Former ISI chief General (retd) Zaheerul Islam Abbasi raised eyebrows after he was seen addressing a PTI corner meeting recently.

According to reports, Zaheerul Islam organized the corner meeting in his home town Mator in Kahuta, Rawalpindi.

People were surprised to see him at the gathering because he has not formally announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Hundreds of people shared his pictures from the rally asking whether he has joined the Imran Khan’s political party.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry told Dawn, Pakistan’s leading English daily, that Gen Islam had participated in a political event in support of a PTI candidate in the upcoming Punjab Assembly by-polls.

The candidate Islam is said to have been supporting is Shabbir Awan, who is running for MPA from the PP-7 (Rawalpindi) constituency.

The former ISI honcho was accused of being behind the PTI’s 126-day long Islamabad’s 2014 sit-in.
