Has Maulana Tariq Jameel praised PM Imran after UN speech? Fact-check
Renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel has been openly praising Prime Minister Imran Khan ever since the latter took office.
He has come under criticism from Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the most powerful religoolitical party the JUI-F for his relationship with his political namesis.
A video of Tariq Jameel is doing the round on social media of late purporting to show the cleric paying tribute to the prime minister for his honesty and his love for the religion.
He is heard telling an audience that he has never seen a ruler like Imran Khan in his life.
In the undated video, the maulana asks his followers not to evade taxes and let the government spend the money for the welfare of the country.
The video has also been shared on the unverified account of National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser with a caption that said ” Maulana Tariq Jameel is paying tribute to Prime Minister Imran Khan for excellently presenting case of Kashmiris and Pakistanis in the United Nations”.
Maulana Tariq Jameel, however, does not make any mention of the prime minister’s speech at the world body’s session.
It could not be independently confirmed that the the Tableeghi Jamaat leader’s video was recorded after the premier’s speech at the UN.
