Karachi weather update: Met Office revises rain forecast

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has revised its rain forecast after heavy downpour battered the metropolis on Sunday.

The PMD which earlier said the current spell will end on July 26th has now predicted that it can last till July 27th.

It said strong monsoon currents continually penetrate in Sindh since last night and will prevail till 26/27 July.

A statement issued by the PMD said: “Under the influence of this weather system: Widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms with scattered heavy/very heavy falls (extremely heavy at times) are likely in Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando M Khan, Tando Allayar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki & Kashmore districts and Karachi division from today to 26/27 July 2022. Possible Impacts : Heavy/very heavy rainfall may generate urban flooding/water-logging in low lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparker, Tando M Khan, Tando Allayar, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana & Sukkur during the forecast period. Strong winds may damage vulnerable & loose structures. Persistent heavy spell over Khuzdar, Lasbella, Hub & along Kirthar Range may create pressure on Hub Dam & Flash Flooding in Dadu & Jamshoro distts & downstream. Note: All concerned authorities are requested to remain alert during the forecast period and take necessary actions.”
