MTJ Nara: Maulana Tariq Jameel’s brand mocked for selling branded drawstring

Karachi: Pakistani social media is flooded with posts mocking items for sale at the recently inaugurated fashion brand by renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil.

Mots of the Facebook and Twitter posts containing pictures of drawstrings (Nara) mocked the maulana for selling the item at Rs. 510. Other posts carried the pictures of caps that Muslims wear during the prayers, taking aim at Maulana Tariq Jamil for exuberant prices.

MTJ has issued a statement and clarified that it’s not selling Naras.

A close look at the viral pictures revealed that most of them were being offered by J.J , a brand launched by late Pakistani celebrity Junaid Jamshed who was also associated with the Tableeghi Jamaat.

Maulana’s supporters called out the critics for unfairly criticizing him for launching the MTJ brand. They were of the views that MTJ’s profits would be spent on the betterment of Pakistan and religious seminaries.

His followers also accused supporters of rival religious parties and sects of maligning Maulana Tariq Jamil out of envy.
