Mufti Ismail Toru arrested for blasphemy against Sahaba
Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi police have arrested Mufti Ismail Toru for blasphemy against Sahaba after the cleric delivered a controversial speech to defend Mufti Azizur Rehman.
The arrest was made after some scholars belonging to Deobandi school of thought and their followers submitted a complaint against Toru for justifying the rape of a student by Mufti Azizur Reman in Lahore.
Toru, while speaking in Masjid Aqsa Rawalpindi, referred to the era of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), to defend Mufti Aziz whose video of sodomizing a student recently went viral.
The cleric called on people to stand by Mufti Azizur Rehman as he was given an intoxicating substance to make the video.
Mufti Aziz was arrested on Sunday from Mianwali where he was hiding with his sons after his video went viral. The disgraced cleric was remanded in police custody on Monday.
After registration of the FIR, Rawalpindi police took Mufti Ismail Toru into custody in the presence of scores of seminary students who chanted slogans against the authorities for targeting Ulema.
