NAB arrests Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Thursday took PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz into custody outside Kot Lakhpat Jail after she visited her jailed father PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Maryam Nawaz was taken into custody after she failed to respond to NAB”s reminders to appear in the money laundering and Chaudhry Sugar Mills cases.

In statement issued by the NAB Maryam Nawaz and her cousin Yousuf Abbas have been arrested in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case and it would present them before the Accountability Court on Friday.

The NAB said it would seek remand of both the detainees in accordance with the law.

The PMLN leader has been detained at the NAB office because the anti-graft body was not satisfied with the security arrangement for her.

The NAB and the government have come under criticism from the PMLN and the PPP for arresting the woman politician.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made a fiery speech in the National Assembly after learning that Maryam Nawaz has been arrested by NAB.

He drew comparisons between the current government and the military dictatorship of Gen Zia.

He said Zia regime was notorious for making cases against women but it was a pity the same thing is being done in “Naya Pakistan’ too.

PPP leader Asif Zardari also condemned the arrest and warned the government of consequences.

Meanwhile, the PMLN and PTI workers indulged in a physical fight after N-league workers chanted slogans to disrupt press conference of federal minister Murad Saeed.
