Nawaz Sharif joins Twitter

Islamabad: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has joined Twitter, raking in thousands of followers within a few hours after his daughter Maryam Nawaz shared the news in a tweet.

The first tweet sent out by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader read “Respect the vote”, a slogan which he started raising after he was disqualified by the Supreme Court.

The three-time prime minister of Pakistan joined Twitter after he agreed to attended an all parties conference (APC) by opposition parties via video link.

His first tweet was retweeted by around 20 thousands people within seven hours and liked by over 36 thousands followers.Total number of his followers stood at over 86 thousands by the night between Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Election Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has warned TV channels against broadcasting Sharif’s speech which he is due to deliver at the APC.
