PTI leaders take aim at DG ISPR for not ‘defending’ President of Pakistan

Islamabad: Director General ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar was criticized by PTI supporters and leaders for not defending President Arif Alvi on TV.

The DG ISPR was asked on Geo News whether he would confirm that President Arif Alvi was asked not to attend the funerals of the army men, who died in a helicopter crash in Balochistan, because social media accounts allegedly associated with the PTI had made inappropriate remark in the aftermath of the incident.

General Babar Iftikhar said he would not comment on the matter.

The DG’s decision to parry the question was seen as confirmation.

Senior PTI leaders Shireen Mazari and Ali Haider Zaidi were prominent among those who took to Twitter to share their reactions.

Mazari said the president of Pakistan should have been defended by the ISPR Director General as he was the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Ali Haider Zaidi said that the question should have been handled in a much more “dignified and professional manner”.

Some PTI workers also objected to the DG ISPR’s refusal to respond to a question regarding the president.
