Red Mosque’s Maulana Abdul Aziz hoists Taliban flag a day after New Zealand abandons Pakistan tour

Islamabad: A day after New Zealand cricket team abandoned its Pakistan tour over a purported security threat, Lal Masjid’s Maulana Abdul Aziz hoisted Afghan Taliban’s flag on a seminary adjacent to the mosque in the country’s capital.

When police arrived to remove the flags, the angry cleric warned them of consequences in front of a camera.

When the video of the gun touting Maulana Abdul Aziz surfaced online and hundreds of people condemned him for challenging the state institutions, local administration said a case has been registered against the cleric.

The flags were later removed from the religious seminary after negotiations.
