SC allows tax deduction on prepaid cellphone top-up cards

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed tax deductions on prepaid cellphone top-up cards.

The court said it would no more intervene in the matter.

The ruling came was a three-judge  bench of the country’s top court, headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, heard the case regarding advance tax on cellphone cards, revoking its earlier orders passed June last year.


Former chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice of the high levy charged on mobile phone cards questioning deduction of  Rs 40 from Rs 100 mobile cards.


During the course of hearing, the Supreme Court remarked the government must act honestly on  tax matters, stressing the need to introduce  a procedure that would help determine those eligible to pay taxes.
