Turkey backs Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, asks UN to play more active role

Ankara: Supporting Pakistan’s stance on Occupied Kashmir, Turkey on Saturday called on the United Nations to play a “more” active role in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute within the framework of the UN resolutions.

According to state-run news agency Anadolum, Turkish Foreign Ministry has welcomed the consultations held by the UN Security Council on Friday on the recent developments in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The ministry also reiterate its wish that the dispute be resolved through dialogue between the parties concerned. It also called for calm and avoiding unilateral steps that would escalate tension,” Anadolu quoted the statement as saying.

The statement comes in the wake of Indian decision to revoke autonomy of the Muslim majority Indian occupied territory.

In a recent telephonic talk with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured Pakistan of his steadfast support.
