Ukrainian jet shot down by Iranian missile: Justin Trudeau

Ottawa: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday said: Canadian intelligence shows Ukrainian passenger aircraft was shot down by an Iranian surface to air missile.

Speaking at a press conference, the prime minister said, “this may have been unintentional.

Without providing details to corroborate his statement, Trudeau called for a thorough investigation into what caused the crash on Wednesday.

Quoting multiple US officials, CNN reported that American think Iran mistakenly shot down the airliner.

A US official claimed that the plane was shot down by two Russian made SA-15 surface to air missiles. He said US found Iranian radar signals locking onto the jetliner, before it was shot down.

All 170 people on board a Ukrainian passenger plane were killed when the aircraft crashed Wednesday after taking off from Tehran.

The incident came amid heightened tensions between US and Iran after the killing of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in a drone attack.
