‘We Stand with Ashraf Ghani’ trends in Pakistan as Taliban capture Mazar-i-Sharif

Islamabad: #WeStandWithAshrafGhani became top hashtag trend on Twitter in Pakistan as Taliban fighters captured the major city of Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan on Saturday.

Taliban sent Afghan forces fleeing, and drew closer to Kabul as Western countries scrambled to evacuate their citizens from the capital.

Pashtoon Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader and Pakistani member of parliament Mohsin Dawar condemned the international powers for abandoning Afghan President and the people of Afghanistan as the reports regarding Mazar-i-Sharif surfaced.

Mohsin Dawar wrote, “Ashraf Ghani’s government is under siege. It’s the only hope b4 Afghanistan turns into a hub of terror. International powers are in collusion & want him removed for their interests. The price of this will be paid by common people & not only in Afghanistan.”

More than 12,000 tweets were posted in support of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani under the hashtag:
