When TLP’s Khadim Rizvi lauded Imran Khan for boycotting event featuring Salman Rushdie

Islamabad: Although former prime minister Imran Khan has clarified that his remarks about the attack on Salman Rushdie were quoted out of context by The Guardian, his opponents are busy whipping up religious sentiments against him.

A Twitter fight between Khan’s supporters and the social media workers of the right-wing Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakiatan (TLP) erupted after the PTI chairman was accused of supporting Rushdie.

The political workers used inappropriate language in hashtag trends against each other.

PTI social media activists shared a a video of late TLP Amer Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi wherein he is seen lauding Imran Khan for boycotting an event because Salman Rushdie was also a guest there.

In the video, Khadim Rizvi says he will salute Khan for boycotting the event.

Senior journalist Hamid Mir also shared a clip of his interview with Imran Khan where the former prime minister explained why he chose not to attend the event organized by India Today.

His supporters also shared a screenshot of one of his tweets about Salman Rushdie posted in 2012 to defend their leader.

Khan’s political nemeses Maulana Fazlur Rehman used the opportunity to launch a personal attack against Imran Khan.

PML-N leader Ishaq Dar and several other politicians shared The Guardians interview with captions targeting Imran Khan.
