Wifaq-ul-Madaris reacts to Mufti Azizur Rehman scandal

Multan: Wifaq-ul-Madaris, the central board which oversees religious seminaries belonging to Deobandi school of thought in Pakistan, has asked the government to take action against Mufti Azizur Rehman for sexually exploiting a student.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Wifaq said it has cancelled the registration of Jamia Manzurul Islam, Lahore, after the scandal involving one of its teachers surfaced.

Referring to the viral video of the cleric, the statement said it has not only vilified the religion but also damaged Pakistan’s image.

The viral video shows a student, who identified himself as Sabir, claiming that he is being threatened by Mufti Azizur Rehman’s son Altafur Rehman.

He said he recorded the video after being abused by the cleric.

Sabir said he is hiding somewhere to protect himself and threatened to commits suicide.
