Woman tortured for refusing marriage proposal in Faisalabad

Faisalabad: A court on Wednesday granted bail to businessman Sheikh Danish, the prime suspect in the abduction and torture of a female medical student.

According to Dawn News anchor Absa Komal, the bail was granted to Danish in a case pertaining to recovery of liquor from his possession and he still remains in police custody.

The bail was granted against the surety bonds of Rs50,000 and the suspect was ordered to appear before the court on August 31.

Shortly after his bail was confirmed, several journalists said Sheikh Danish has strong political connections.

Police on Tuesday arrested six people including a woman for torturing the student after she allegedly turned down a marriage proposal.

The Punjab Police said CPO Faisalabad arrested the suspects with the help of his team and use of modern technology.

The police arrested the suspects after a video of a Khadija, a resident of University Town, being tortured and forced to kiss and lick their shoes went viral.

Although police did not share the names of the suspects and details of the incident, captions accompanying the widely circulated video claimed that the unidentified woman was tortured after she refused to marry Sheikh Danish, the owner of Best Export Faisalabad.
