Fact-check: Moeen Ali has not announced boycott of India or IPL
London: Indian ruling party is receiving backlash after its spokesperson Nupur Sharma insulted Prophet Muhammad on TV.
The BJP suspended Nupur and initiated an inquiry against her after strong reaction from the Arab world.
As ambassadors and celebrities condemned the remarks against the Prophet of Islam, a statement attributed to English cricketer Moeen Ali started circulating on social media.
According to the statement, the cricketer said he would boycott Indian Premier League (IPL) if New Delhi does not apologize for the insulting remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
According to our correspondent, Moeen Ali has not made any such statement. The remarks being attributed to him were posted by a fake Twitter account which is being run in Moeen’s name.
